Sunday the 1st of October saw Durham Street in Tauranga shut down for the annual celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with the Southern Hemisphere’s biggest (and best) STEM Festival.
The organising team had spent six months planning and organising and it was a relief when the big day finally arrived. The weather was touch and go with a threat of wind gusts, but we were prepared and had plans in place if it got too windy for gazebos on the street.
We officially opened the event at 10am and by 11am thousands were onsite and got to experience hands-on experiments and activities and discover new things and got to meet with some amazing people currently working in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics sector. Over 50+ exhibitors came from all over the motu to showcase their work and industry.
This free to attend event saw 10,000 tickets ‘sold out’ two weeks before the big day.
We’re so grateful to all the funders and sponsors who have supported us to ensure that the festival remains FREE to attend. A shoutout to headline sponsor Manawa Energy for being our biggest supporter two years in a row.
Congratulations to the STEMFest organising team for another successful event and we’re already looking forward to the next one.
